I am a proud dad / hunter of the mighty South Texas Dove. LOL It was a fun weekend and 2 days of hunting for dove this 2009 opening season in Beeville, Texas. Last year my son, Oliver, served as our "bird dog" on the annual hunting trip with my wife's cousins. For Christmas this year, his uncle James gifted him a Rossi 20 gauge single shot shot gun. So we got him a license and he joined the ranks of Men Who Hunt. While he was excited about getting to hunt and not just pick up shells and shag birds that I killed, I was excited about having a new hunting partner. What I didn't expect was the surreal moment when I glanced over at my almost 11 year old son in his camo hat and shirt intensely studying the sky for the telltale signs of dove, and realized that he's not a little boy anymore.
